Tracking Study
Run-in
Study
Single Dose Trial (Pilot Study)
The Single dose trial started in February 2009 and we are
actively recruiting interested patients over the age of 16 years with mild lung
disease (FEV1 at least 60%). The purpose of this trial is to confirm
safety of a single nebulised dose of our gene therapy; we will also look for
evidence that the gene gets into the cells of the airway and works. This will
rely on laboratory tests, as it is not envisaged that after only a single dose,
patients will feel any better in themselves.
It is essential that we have this
information before we progress further with the multi-dose trial.
Once 3 patients have received a half dose, a
further 24 planned patients will enter the main trial. In addition to visits at
which standard measurements are made as in the Tracking and Run-in studies,
patients will also have measurements made down a flexible telescope
(bronchoscope) in the lower airways. This will be performed under anaesthetic
and will give us our best chance of confirming the gene is working.
Because these tests are highly specialised, we are only
recruiting patients from the Royal Brompton Hospital clinics. If you would be
interested in receiving more information, please contact
